CLUB HISTORY
In the heart of southern Westchester County, Rye Racquet Club was established in 1961 as a three-court tennis club. The following year, two additional courts were added. The club expanded again in 1974 when four outdoor courts were built on an adjacent property. To provide some perspective regarding our growth over the years, we offer this statistic: in 1973, we launched our junior program (Rye Tennis Academy) which initially had 60 students. In recent years, we have had over 600 students enrolled annually in the Rye Tennis Academy and over 500 in the Adult Workshop Program. Rye Racquet Club started as a small facility, but has evolved into a club offering top-notch tennis instruction, competition, and activities to a large clientele of players. The club's Metropolitan Interclub Tennis League (MITL) women's doubles teams won all three flight 1 divisions - A, B and C - in 2008 competition, repeating our 2005 record. The club has a long history of success in team tennis competition. Since 1991, when the club started competing in the MITL, the club has earned 31 division titles, always in flight 1, the highest level. In 1999, the club celebrated a similar sweep in the MITL, winning all three divisions. The club celebrates another "SWEEP" in the MITL and HV-C2 (Hudson Valley Tennis League), winning all four divisions in 2010. The club has had equally impressive victories in USTA competition, with three teams qualifying for the USTA league National Championships in 2005. Its 4.5 team were national champions and its 4.0 team were finalists. Its 5.0 team were finalists in 2004.
In 2010, the club also entered the MITL junior competition, with boys and girls teams participating in 16 and under, 13 and under, and 11 and under divisions.
